Resizing Image Archive Window

Let me test a theory with you. The ONE difference I found was the "Size Grip" control (see screen shot) that applications have in their status bar.

If you open Notepad, Paint, IE, etc, then you'll notice a triangle in the bottom right corner, whenever the application is not maximized. That entire rectangular area can then be clicked and dragged to resize the application window.
If you start one of those applications then you should notice that the LEFT bottom corner, however, does NOT have the size grip (and neither the ones on the top). Again only the right bottom corner offers that control. So, if my theory is right and you were to try to resize a Notepad window and compare it with StudioLine, you might find both applications actually behave identical in the three other corners - and ONLY the bottom right corner would be different?
While that does not address your issue - it at least pin it down to the specific reason, because so far I haven't been able to explain your original observation: "trouble grabbing the bottom two corners to pull them on a diagonal. For whatever reason, the top two corners are not as bad but they seem to me to be overly sensitive compared to most other apps I use."

Open the SL Assistant as if importing pics and it has the triangle in the lower right. If you move the pointer up to the upper right corner and very carefully follow the border around the corner you will see that the diagonal pointer is activated through a reasonable range (although on my monitor the activation range is wider than it is tall).

Actually, I really was hoping you could open Notepad, Paint, Internet Explorer or similar apps, then do a actual a one-on-one comparison of any one of THOSE applications against StudioLine - how does the same TOP left corner compare? how does the same bottom LEFT corner compare?
Do THESE behave identical? Is the ONLY difference the bottom right corner - for which there would be an explanation...
(I do understand that some of StudioLine's internal windows might have different border widths and do have the "Size Grip" - and at some point it will be helpful to learn whether those Windows are resized more easily as they might serve as "models" - or not.)

As a side-note... This has been very educational. I've been testing with the standard Microsoft Windows applets to establish a "base line". Sure, they all do behave the same from app to app, but I never realized how different the handling of the 4 corners within the SAME application window is:
In the top two corners, if I follow on the margin from the center of the windows towards either corner, I only get a diagonal arrow once my mouse pointer precisely touches the "curvy" portion of the rounded corners - which is a tiny area. If I dare go "inside" the app window (e.g., the title bar), the double-arrows are instantly lost.
In contrast, if I move to the bottom and start from the center of the bottom margin and move left or right on the margin, my diagonal arrow appears much earlier before I reach the rounded corner. AND, if I then move "inside" the windows, the diagonal arrow STAYS for a bit. So it is active in a much larger space than for the top two corners. Finally, the bottom right corner then has an added rectangular space where the diagonal arrow is active, whenever the app has a Size Grip control.
So in MY testing of Windows applets, the bottom right with the Size Grip control is the easiest to reach, the bottom left is average, both top corners are the most finicky. I had hoped that you would confirm the same on yours so that we would know my tests actually relate to yours.

Hi Wayne,
Version 4.0.19 includes better handling when the Windows task bar is positioned on the side instead of the bottom. Please use the "Check for Updates" function in the StudioLine "Help" menu to install the new update and let us know if this resolves that particular issue.

Wayne, have you discovered the special "Lock" and "Copy" buttons in the title of each image tool / graphics filter? From your description it wonder if those would accomplish the intended result for you.

Step 1 - use the cropping tool (or any other tools for that matter) - and note the special buttons that I circled:

Step 2 - even later, when you have OTHER photos you want to treat the same way, you can find your "master" image in the image archive, and click on the image tool icon below the thumbnail.

Step 3 - at this point you could either drag the "copy" button from the image tools' toolbar to any number of other images.
OR, you could select additional images (clicking with Ctrl key depressed) and at the end click the "copy" button to apply the same image tool to all.
OR, you could click the "Lock" button on your master image. Now, whenever you pick another image, the "locked" settings will apply to each image:

Hi Wayne,
thanks for confirming. The problem we were addressing was dealing with the "initial" open of dialogs when there was a taskbar on the left.
Once a dialog HAD been opened previously, its position would have been saved and then reused the next time StudioLine starts. In that case, StudioLine will not reposition dialogs (like your Date-Edit or Color dialogs), as long as they do remain visible. The system assumes that you had purposely placed them partially in the margin to leave more room for other screen content.
If you do move those dialogs to different screen locations and later reopen StudioLine, they should appear at their new location.

Thanks for that feedback. We add your suggestion about the improved visibility of grid lines to our internal list. I do see your point.

Hi, I would be helpful to know which product version (such as Photo Basic 3, Photo Classic 4, StudioLine 4 Web Designer, etc.) you are using - as many features are specific to certain versions.
For now, I am assuming your question may be about "Web Galleries" in StudioLine Photo Classic 4. In that case you would select a number of images in the Image Archive, then chose the option to Create Web Gallery - and there is an option for "User Styles". User Styles allow you to customize many details of the web gallery, including settings for background colors (see screen shot). Hopefully one would go nicely with the background texture you are using for the rest of your site?

Yes, if you have more sophisticated customization needs beyond those of the built-in web galley templates, then an upgrade to StudioLine Photo Classic 4 would be the way to go.

During the first start of StudioLine after installation the system creates an installation log at "%ProgramData%\H&M System Software" as no permanent StudioLine Data directory has been chosen yet.

In your case, your log file indicated that your Windows system had trouble with its Access Database Engine (a.k.a. as Jet Engine), encountering the error "System Resource Exceeded" while attempting to upgrade the database. There is a Microsoft Knowledgebase entry that might be related:
https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2726928/en-us.

The solution was to first let the database engine repair/compress the version 3 database. After that StudioLine 4 started successfully and was able to convert the database to version 4.

Best Regards,
Andy

So, if I understand correctly you loaded images into StudioLine and editing them. Now you are trying to export them to some sort of DVD, CD, USB Thumb Drive to send them to someone else? What do you mean by "arranging"? Do you want the files to appear in a certain order when you display the exported files in Windows?

Norman Mayhew wrote:
how do I save the folders in proper order

What IS the proper order? Within StudioLine you can sort the photos in a folder by a any of the pictures descriptive data, such as dates, names, titles, etc. Or, you can use your mouse to manually drag images into any arbitrary order within that folder.

You may have to describe your entire work-flow, maybe using a "for instance" so that we better understand what specifically you are trying to accomplish and what the relevance of the order of the images is.

I apologize if the upload process is not sufficiently intuitive. Your feedback will help us to improve that site!

First, I'm assuming that you have your RAW file in some of your Windows folders either on the local drive or an attached drive?
Secondly, are you using Windows 7? If not, what browser (such as Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.) are you trying?

If you are using Windows Vista or older, or if the file you are trying to send is ONLY available INSIDE of StudioLine, then please let us know and we'll send instructions for THAT.

Otherwise, open the Windows folder that contains your RAW file. In Windows 7 or 8, open the MediaCenter.email site in your Internet Explorer. On older Windows versions, open Netscape or some other browser.

Drag the file to be uploaded from your Windows folder onto the "SELECT FILES" button (see screen sample below):

Unfortunately, there is no immediate feedback that that worked. But, you can press on the "=" button next to the Select Files button to see the list of files ready to be uploaded. Assuming your files appear in the list, you can fill in the rest of the form and "Send".

If the file you are trying to upload is only available in StudioLine itself, you can right-click that file in StudioLine (after updating to the most recent version as necessary), choose to send with MediaCenter.email, but be certain you choose the option to send the "original" file (which would be the underlying RAW file):

Hi,
When multiple images are selected then the descriptors do show the values of the FIRST selected image. A button to the left of a descriptor changes color to indicate if some of other selected images are a different value.

Consequently, when you enter a new value, it is only replacing the content for the FIRST selected image. However, you can press on that afore-mentioned button (the "Copy All" function) to apply the value from the first image to all other selected images:

This extra steps reduces the risk of accidental overwriting existing values in (what might be) a large number of selected images.

absolutely. In the image archive, right click on the empty space between thumbnails to bring up the context menu.

Choose to Sort By | Descriptors. This will open a dialog box with the different descriptor types. Scroll down the list to find the IPTC descriptors and add one or multiple as sort criteria.
