Photo Classic v4 Overlay Text During Export

I have been doing this for some time but as of a few days ago when I choose to overlay text on the export dialog it brings up a preview/detail screen showing the image with the text very small defaulted to the lower right with no apparent method to edit the settings. I notice that the export form is the same as it was in v3, not like what is shown in the help for v4

I'm including a screen shot of what the export looks like in my system. If yours is markedly different, then I recommend you reproduce the problem and then immediately use the "Service Request" function in the Help menu to forward your diagnostic logs files to our development team so that we can try to figure out why your Export screen looks like version 3.

As you can see in my screen shot, selecting that option in the Export panel SHOULD open the "Text" panel to control size, position, content, etc. of the overlay. Maybe there is some strange combination, where that panel is hidden beyond the visible portion of your screen, or covered by some other objects on your screen.
Of course, our software should always "pop up" any screens to the "front" of all other windows, and if necessary shift them to visible screen coordinates. So, here to, a service request might enable our developers to figure out where that "Text" panel is hiding in your case and what necessary "action" our software is currently omitting.

Actually I sent three screen shots but two appear not to have made it. I used the mouse exclusively - a MS ARC mouse which I have used for some time, including for v3, and until this incident, with v4. The highlighting was just from 'mouseover'. In fact the export does take place. I will resubmit with better captures and details.

File names describe actions. All actions by MS ARC mouse. No key presses. Nothing hidden on screen. Logfiles.zip attached.

The issue is that I can not see the final text box to adjust the text to what I use for my default. My original comment about v3 vs v4 had to do with the first context form but on review I realize that the video used the File dropdown, not the right click context menu. Sorry for the missdirection.

I also just now tried some other Saved Settings and the exported image does respond to them correctly. Unfortunately I do not appear to have saved the set I have been using the past few months.

For further background, I am running Win 7 64 and have three flat screens. I have carefully searched behind all displays on all three windows and have found nothing hiding. I have been using this setup for a couple of years and there have been no changes.

I have tried a number of images from different dates and different cameras with what appears to be the same results.
I have attached the log file. Which of the files in the zipped log files are you showing?

I note that the current version respects the Taskbar position when the main window is maximized.

However, the pop-up windows for Import and Browse for 'Load Into..' always seem to position with their left edges to the left of the main window left edge. This behaviour is the same on at least some other windows. I have attached a screen shot.

I am running three monitors with the center monitor as the 'main' monitor. The Taskbar is vertical on the left edge.

I seem to have an inordinate amount of trouble grabbing the bottom two corners to pull them on a diagonal. For whatever reason, the top two corners are not as bad but they seem to me to be overly sensitive compared to most other apps I use. I don't know if this is just my perception or if it may be a windows setting I am unaware of.

Yes, I am trying to use the windows handles because on some smaller monitors the maximize is too large and I want to leave a small ribbon of the desktop visible for other stuff I want to bring up. I could likely [Alt][Tab] to them but I seem to be a mouser, so to speak.

On a/the previous version I could not maximize as the Image Archive would not recognize the boundaries of the Task Bar. I do not recall having trouble grabbing the handles at that time.

I'll try to clarify. The smaller monitor is my laptop which is a two year old or so Dell XPS 17". I am using Win 7 64 Pro. It is normally configured to also drive two 24" monitors, one landscape (in the center and my main ) and one portrait. I can list some technical data if need be but I don’t expect that to be an issue.

When using three monitors I maximize SL on the center 24" landscape one and it respects the Task Bar which is vertical on the left of that monitor.

When I use the laptop only I keep the Task Bar on its left side, move SL to the upper left corner and then try to use its lower right corner handle to extend it within 1/4" - 3/8" of the right edge and bottom edge of the screen. The pointer does not consistently toggle to diagonal . More often than not I end up doing that in two moves, one vertical down and one horizontal to the right. It seems that I have to hit the diagonal corner handle within a very few pixels, perhaps within 1/32" of the corner. It seems a slightly bigger target on the top handles. This is the same on the laptop monitor and on the 24" monitors and at various distances from the Task Bar.
.
I do not experience this on other apps so I am wondering if there is some handle definition that is overly tight. There are apps where putting the mouse pointer within 1/8" of the corner will engage the handle.

This really isn't debilitating - I just wanted to report it in case it was something easy to adjust at some point.

I think you are on the right track. Open the SL Assistant as if importing pics and it has the triangle in the lower right. If you move the pointer up to the upper right corner and very carefully follow the border around the corner you will see that the diagonal pointer is activated through a reasonable range (although on my monitor the activation range is wider than it is tall). If you then move to the lower right corner of the main window and do this experiment you will see (at least on my monitor) that the activation range is miniscule in comparison.
Perhaps it is related to a border width that exists but may not be visible.

btw, this happens in other places as well such as setting colors for text so perhaps it a general problem.

I tried Wordpad and I would now describe the diagonal initiation point as essentially at the beginning of the curve in all four corners if you are following the border up or down, and much more lenient on all four corners if you are following the border left or right. The active initiation point is a rectangle nominally twice as wide as it is tall on the upper right, perhaps one by one on both left corners(may be 2x1) and twice as tall as it is wide on the lower right. This not the same as you described but we do agree that the corners are by no means equal in active handle areas.

I tried the same file with Notepad. It does not have the dotted triangle in the lower left. All four corners hot the active area more or less at the curve when moving the mouse up or down and earlier when moving left and right. All four active areas seem to be nominal 2x1 rectangles.

I enlarged the doc to about 24"x24" and saw no noticeable difference in the active area.

Remember; Microsoft, as was Satan, was sent to try us and both are doing a fine job!

I just did a quick test. The initial call of the Import window now opens to the right of the main window's left margin (good) and the Browse for 'Load Into' opens just the left of the column the button is in (good). However, if called again during the same session, both windows move left with each call. The Import window will move through the task Bar if the Task Bar is on the left edge (IE: it will not honor the Task Bar area). This may have to do with a Windows 'feature'.

I seem to recall that there was a four size cycle in opening a window repeatedly. Maybe this move to the left is a similar feature? In any event I would guess that most people do not open Import repeatedly in a given session so .19 should be good.

The current version has a choice of three Composition Lines styles. These styles resize with the selected crop area to enable their use in visualizing the composition of the final crop.

I would like to see tick marks, which do not move with cropping, perhaps four on the left edge and six the bottom edge of the base picture. The reason is that I often a series of pics that I want to crop more or less to the same object size. I have no way to reference whatever size I choose and it is too subjective to reset cropping ratios. On the earlier version I could use the cross hairs on the base picture to do this.

It looks like the movement of the Import window is fixed but although the 'Choose Color' window does not seem to move left, its left margin does not respect the Task Bar. I have enclosed a screen shot.

Due to a miss-click I turned up a possibly related issue. The 'Edit Date and Time' window came up straddling two monitors with its left side buried under the Task Bar. I can't speak to the bulk of SL as I don't use it but I am wondering if the opening routine for SL ought to determine the location and size of the monitor which SL is opened on, take into account the position of the Task Bar, and then require all windows that open within SL to open within that space space with any manual resizing honored though the session, or perhaps across sessions. I suppose that would also require a method to re-establish the safe space if SL is moved to a different monitor. I realize this is not exactly simplistic but I am putting it out as a strawman. I have included a screen shot. The black area is due to the fact that the left monitor is my laptop which is not as tall as the right monitor. I would not expect that issue to be dealt with - I have to deal with it all the time.

I have been using the Copy buttons for some time for a variety of things and really like them.

I was aware of the Lock buttons but had not tried them. I have tried them now and although they may help me some of the time they have some disconcerting characteristics (to me, anyway) that I need to experiment more with.

Regarding 'Simple Grid'. When I switch to it or to 'Golden Rule' I get a different grid within the cropped portion. The Simple Grid does remain the same size as I shrink the crop and it may help me do what I was looking for. The Golden Rule and Rule of Thirds grids shrink along with the shrinking crop (which is to be expected).

I find that I can barely see the lines of the Simple Grid, definitely not as easily as I can see the Rule of Thirds lines. I don't see any way to adjust either their color or weight. There does not seem to be a reference Composition Lines or Simple Grid in the Help. I would suggest you consider converting the 'Composition Lines' text and check box to a display box with a dropdown as Aspect Ratio is. It could have a selection of 'None'

I have included screen shots of Simple Grid and Rule Of Thirds so you can see the grid lines I mentioned.

MANUAL CLEANUP OF DATABASE

I have deleted all photos, webs, and collages from what was a db of several hundred gigs.
I then compressed the db but was surprised at how large it still was so I looked at the folder structure (.png attached) and noted that the folders Temp, Images, and Cache are contributing the size.

Is it safe to manually delete their contents?

What about going forward? Is the large Temp folder most likely from my deletion actions?

I could just delete the whole empty db and start over but I want to keep the tag structure.
