Hi Bill,
Sure, moving StudioLine to a new computer is commonly done.
The basic steps are:
- Identify the location of your StudioLine Data folder on your old computer. It might be something like "C:\StudioLine3 Data".
Hint: Look in the StudioLine "Help" Menu. The "About" screen should reveal which folders StudioLine is currently configured with. - Also look up or locate your StudioLine 4 activation key.
- Copy that ENTIRE folder and all its subfolders to a disk on your NEW computer. It does NOT have to be the C: drive again, but it certainly can.
- Download and install the lastest StudioLine Photo Classic 4 onto the new computer. When you START the software for the first time, it will offer to either set up a completely NEW image archive (what you do NOT want), or it will ask you for the location of your existing image archive. Simply point to the StudioLine Data folder that you had copied to your new computer.
That's it as far as any images that are stored INSIDE the StudioLine Image Archive.
VERY IMPORTANT: If your StudioLine "Preference" Settings on your old computer have "Do not Copy / Proxy only" configured for any of your disks, external drives, USB devices, etc. then please understand that those files were never stored "internally" in the StudioLine image archive - StudioLine was always just referencing them in their original "external" locations, as instructed by those settings. So you absolutely HAVE to locate these "external" files on those disks and copy them over to the new computer as well (or plug those devices into the new computer).
